GiggedUp - Jobs, Resumes, and Video Interviews

Posted by: Jason Drohn In: entrepreneur tools

A new social site just launched yesterday, GiggedUp.com.  On it, users can create profiles, post their resume, add a list of skills and languages, and request recommendations from friends.  They can also link to Myspace, YouTube, and LinkedIn.  The unique feature is the video upload of an interview though.

For job seekers, the service is free.  For employers, there are costs involved.  From a business side, it is a good model.  The only thing that worries me about the site is job seekers adopting the service.  What could possibly make you want to upload a video of yourself, answering questions?

It is interesting that the company was launched yesterday, because last week, I had a conversation with a friend about this very concept.  He came to me wondering what I thought about a resume upload service.  My initial reaction was that it didn’t have much value, the business has already been done.

After about an hour of question and answer, we hashed out a pretty solid business model.  It involved video interviews, resume uploads, free services for users and subscription plans for employers, and all of that good stuff.  The only difference was the fact that users could build a custom portfolio, suited for a graphic designer who might want to showcase pictures or programmers looking to add examples of coding projects.

In the end, it really is all related to the value that your service provides to your users, and not the other way around.
