Use Your Common Sense!

by Jason Drohn

Something interesting happened to me over the weekend..  Chelsey’s friend called her about how much it is to start a business in Pennsylvania.  She was inquiring for her cousin’s sake.

Caution – rant starting..

This inevitably led to me getting on the phone and asking more about the kind of business that her cousin was going to get into.  Her response, “Well Jake (per say) found something online..  He was going to ‘kind of’ buy this business.”

Now if you are anything like me, red flags started getting shot up everywhere…

So I asked to talk to him.  He wasn’t around.

I then proceed into a rant about how most of the businesses you find online are nothing but scams.  You know, the usual.   I finished by giving her my phone number and a time they could reach me.

Now after letting this fester for a bit, I decided to write about it.

First of all, this is a free job.  They don’t have any money, and I am not about to get blamed for having them get into a scam.  I am all for starting businesses, but they don’t just fall into your lap.

Secondly, if someone is afraid to call then they sure as hell aren’t going to do any good in their own business.

And thirdly, if you are looking for great business ideas, don’t type “business ideas” into Google.  Don’t buy a business plan from Ebay.

Use some common sense!

I couldn’t agree more with your rant… Just hope your friend wasn’t suckered into the hype… I hate the hype surrounding these “opportunities”…!

I know, it is amazing. The internet is a haven for conspiracy. Whenever I hear, “I found this really great business online,” it makes me cringe.

I am sure you feel the same way :0)
