I just wanted to post an informal heads up as to what I am up to the next couple days.
Saturday, I have been chosen to present two business plans for a top prize of $7,500. There are a total of 8 plans in the finals so we will see what happens.
Last year, I also had two plans in the finals, but my presentations sucked. So I made it my main short term goal, to get very good in front of a crowd.
The two I am presenting are concepts I came up months ago; A mobile blogging application which can be downloaded on any phone or PDA and a social type, independent film website. I have working demos for each and am getting the last stages of the presentation down.
The reason I am putting so much empahasis on this competition is because I am a struggling presenter. I can communicate ideas and thoughts on paper, in outline form, and even in some pretty crude drawings, but I struggle on stage.
It takes a special kind of person to present to an audience. What if something goes wrong? What if my ideas don’t come out the way that I think they should? What if I pick out the wrong tie? :0)
The real question I have been asking myself lately is, “What if I have an amazing presentation?” It really is a pretty scary thing.
Ideas coupled with amazing presentations… That is my goal.
