Review – Backup Platinum

by Jason Drohn

As freelance professionals, we are busy. Oftentimes, too busy to remember that our data needs to be backed up in some timely manner. I can’t tell you how many times I have answered the question, “If my hard drive is toast, how can I retrieve the data?”

To put it very simply, it is easier to do a bit of preventative maintenance than have a company sift through a burnt disc to find remnants of information. Set up your computer to back itself up every week, or every day! Mirror drives across a network. Lessen the chance that something catastrophic can happen.

I was asked to do a sponsored review for Backup Platinum, a great application that lets you basically automate the process through a wizard. You tell it how you want it backed up (folders syncing to each other or traditional backup), where you want the files to go (DVD drive, network location, etc), and a time schedule (now or every Sunday night at 1 am).

The rest is automated. Log in, see that your files are safe, close out.

If you are in a corporate setting, the software will let you encrypt the data accordingly. Whether that be through a password or using ‘Blowfish’ technology, files will be compressed and safe.

All in all, I am extremely impressed by the Backup Platinum product. They have all of their ducks lined up in a crowded backup software market. It is a great investment if you are looking to keep years worth of work safe.
