The Strategy Of Startups

by Jason Drohn

Welcome to version II of JDsBlog.com.

Yesterday, I talked about stepping out of the woods in regards to the web industry.  There is a time when a person becomes so inundated with their profession that they lose site of pretty much any focus that they once had.

I preach over and over that a site needs to add value in order to be successful online.  But I think I may have been forgetting that myself.  When I look at JDsBlog, I ask myself, would I visit?  Is their truly resourceful content that I couldn’t find anywhere else?  Does he put a spin on things that would make me read everyday?

And the answer is, “sometimes.”

I love writing articles about startups.  Not in a ‘TechCrunch launch’ way, but in examining just what it is that makes a startup successful.  Critiquing what someone is doing right.  Explaining how it can be done better.  Explaining how to start a business.  Things of that nature.  And those are the articles that I would frequent if I was just a user.

Frankly, I find simply repeating news quite boring.  There are a lot of places online that do it better with more consistency, so why bother?

So, with the rant aside, I welcome you to the rebranded JDsBlog.  “The Strategy of Startups.”

The Strategy of Startups is really quite simple.  It is a place for entrepreneurs, freelancers, professionals, businessmen and women to gather and learn/participate on the strategy of starting a business.  This is going to include profiling startups in a way that we may all benefit.  Establishing market needs.  Looking at their marketing.  Finding ways to come up with ideas.  Things of that nature.

When I look back on my almost one year history of JDsBlog, it is amazing to see the progression.  And I thank you for coming along with me.  We went from Firefox and open source, to startup news and business, to the strategy behind it all.  I am truly looking forward to this jaunt though, because I think it is the ultimate in seeing exactly what it takes to start a company.

Oh, and two more things.  Adsense is gone.  It was an eyesore.  And all commenters will have a link back in the next day’s post.  Without fail.  So if you like links, get familiar with the comment button :0)

Thank you to Kyle and Cristina for yesterdays comments!

What a great idea!

I’ve developed a similar strategy with a post rewarding my top commentors once or twice a month. Its a good way to encourage commenting. Your method may be even better!

I’ve been considering removing the Adsense as well. It really hasn’t done anything for me, so I’ve been experimenting with different placement, colors, etc. If none work, they will be removed from my site also.

Thanks Kyle! I like it. Actually, I have to tribute http://www.davidairey.com/ with linking to commenter’s posts. He has been doing it for a while and it has proven very effective for him!
