Entrepreneur Tips – What’s The Problem?

by Jason Drohn

Support.com - Entrepreneur Help DeskI have said this time and time again; when generating business ideas – find a problem. That problem will lead you to a target market. Then you just have to develop a product.

Support.com – Tech Support of Minipreneurs

Support.com did just that. They recognized that small businesses and home based professionals need computer service, much like the big corporations do. That service needs to be there fast as well. Small business revenue depends on it. There will be virus problems, USB issues, computer malfunctions… But where can these professionals turn? A local repair agency that charges $300 and hour and won’t get there for three days?

Anymore, those rates and the waiting are unacceptable. I know personally, I get pissed off if my Internet goes down for more than a few minutes. Support.com, launched by SupportSoft (a company which renders the tech support services to Fortune 100 companies), fills the ‘computer help desk’ needs cheaply and effectively for the entrepreneur. Most services can be handled right through an internet connection and the prices don’t go above $99.

“Our Solutions Engineers don’t just know computers; they are experienced in home networking, high-speed data services and popular gadgets from MP3 players to smart phones and personal digital assistants.” With more and more people telecommuting, starting small businesses, and networking home computers for personal or professional pursuits, catering to home office needs could be big business for entrepreneurs who can bring big business solutions directly to consumers.

Recognizing The Problem

Basically, all SupportSoft did was recognize that a problem existed in the home business space. Single entrepreneurs or small teams couldn’t get the support of the bigger companies, so SupportSoft used their existing technology to fill that need, forming a whole new division which will be just as profitable as the first.

Could You Find The Same Niche Profitable?

There is no reason that other entrepreneurs can’t cater to the same niche. In fact, I am surprised that other companies haven’t moved into this area sooner. I remember reading somewhere that in the US over 10% of all working people have at least some income outside of their regular day jobs. That being said, there is an incredible need to support those people.

So, rather than focusing your efforts to start some monotonous Web 2.0 video sharing site, start thinking about what those people need to succeed themselves. That’s your next business idea.
