Sorry to all of you trying to access the site in the last four hours or so. On the one hand, the upgrade was a long time coming. On the other, I could have put it off for at least a couple of months.
As you can imagine, from blogging for close to a year and a half, I have a whole lot of junk anywhere and everywhere on this server. There were images, databases, old plugins and themes, files and folders, and even a few gremlins hiding underneath the SQL tables that just needed to be cleaned up.
On top of that, I was using the ‘Who Sees Ads’ plugin to go through and filter out all the ad blocks for registered users, because I plan on doing a premium members drive shortly. So the premium members get access to downloads, tutorials, courses, special podcasts, entrepreneurial meetings, and everything in between. There will be more on that to come though.
To make a long story short, I botched the plugin somewhere between the time I was finishing up the modifications and when I shut my computer down. I was getting all kinds of crazy errors, and the who sees ads plugin wouldn’t let me delete it. (For future reference, try renaming your plugin and then delete it!). So I though, “What the hell, I wanted to upgrade to WordPress 2.3 anyway..” Then the theme issues started.
Little did I know that very few themes are compatible to 2.3. And if they are, they don’t have the functionality that I want or need. I was able to narrow the list down to 3 or 4, with this one winning out. But, not to the programmer’s fault, it isn’t very easy to get used to. In fact, I am willing to bet most people don’t even try it once they don’t get the results they are looking for right off the bat. But I started trudging through the code to see how it works.
In the end, this is what it will look like. We have a main page with lots of pics, but it isn’t as easy to get through as the traiditional blog layout. On the other hand, it gives JDsBlog a nice clean feel, and I think I will be able to work with it a lot more in the future, since I am going to start getting into classes, online seminars, entrepreneurially focused info products, and so on.
I would love to know what you think of the new site. Are there things you like? Things you don’t? Do colors need to be changed? Or do you dig the old JDsBlog theme?
PS.. The feed reader still comes out the same, so if you keep up through the feeds, nothing will be different :0)

Personally, I prefer brief introductory paragraphs over pictures with title links. But, hey, I also prefer the Dewey Decimal System and card cataloges so you can’t go by me.
I like the theme but miss the old logo. That theme you were using wasn’t compatible?
Hey Reg! LOL.. That is exactly why I asked :0) I prefer a lot of things that some people don’t :0)
Kyle! Thanks for stopping over! I don’t know if it was the theme or just a plugin that I was using, but something didn’t jive. I plan on putting my old logo in the header, with some new kind of graphic. In fact, I hope to do a little flash work for it. I don’t know yet though.
I do have to admit, this theme is growing on me… I am going to change some things around, though.
There is certainly good deal to know about this. We think a person created good points also.
