Download Free Sounds For Your Next Project

Monday, August 24th, 2009

Every once in a while, I’ve got a project that I need some sounds for…  Now, I know there’s lots of money in white-label sounds.  In fact, I have a friend who operates a website that studios pay to get little sound bites like dogs barking or planes taking off.

Well, The Free Sound Project offers the same sorts of thing – only free.  So the next time you’re looking for a canned audio file, make sure you check them out first :0)

No More Meetings

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

I have a new policy in my life – no more meetings.  I spend more time in ‘business meetings’ than any one person should and it truly drives me nuts.

How about this:  “I only attend business meetings that will positively affect me or my companies…”

I like that one much better.  The rest of these informational meetings will have an invoice attached to them!

I feel better.  Rant over.

The Unintentional Change-Up

What is intangible, a great source for business info, and approaching two years old???  JDsBlog.com.

Who would have thought that my one time hobby would turn out to be such a fantastic venture where I would meet a great many fantastic people from all over the world, turn out a pretty good profit, and talk through a number of business ideas before they went to market.

With that being said, I look back on over 680 posts and think, “Damn, I sure did write a lot…”

The fact of the matter is, we are just getting warmed up.  Over the past week and a half, I have been going through writer’s profiles, resumes, and having informal interviews trying to find you some fantastic blogging personalities.  These people have started businesses, figured out how to make money online, learned the ins and out of startup financials, and everything in between.  Their articles are going to be a mainstay here on the site, and I couldn’t be happier.

So, over the next couple weeks, you are going to get to meet some new people, read some great new stuff, and see where JDsBlog is going to go in the future.   And if anyone out there is interested in joining in, let me know!  I am sure that all of you have stories that will help us out in this new and changing world!

Be An Expert

Sunday, January 13th, 2008

For Christmas, I finally got an Xbox 360. Not that I have a tremendous amount of time to play, but when I get the chance I enjoy it immensely! Today, I stopped by GameStop to see what kind of new games they got in. It is my third stop there since Christmas!

You might be asking yourself, “Why would I shop there? Doesn’t Best Buy do the trick?”

Well it does, but the customer service doesn’t quite stack up. You see, at GameStop, the employees stay ridiculously well informed. They know what games are good, what ones aren’t, and why. Its a passion for them.

Regrettably, video games aren’t a niche that I keep terribly up to date on. I should, but there are only so many hours in a day. I don’t spend too much time watching videos of game play or checking out the reviews, but I do know what I like. Apparently, the guys at GameStop do to!

Walking out of the store, bags in hand – it occurred to me that customer service is the reason I go there. Taking someone else’s advice on what is a good game and what isn’t saves me a ton of time. After that thought occurred to me, I started wondering how many other people felt the same way.

Whether this is the case or not, GameStop would do well by purchasing each of their store associates a membership to a game rental place like GameFly.com. It would give the store an added perk to entice gamers behind their sales counters, as well as provide a reason to stay up to date on all the current releases.

Which brings up my next point…  Do you make sure that your customer service stays up to date?  Do you make sure that they are experts?  You, as a business owner, have the responsibility to your customers to make sure your people are well informed.  Whether it’s a magazine subscription, sending a team out to a conference, or allowing your employees a bit of time away from the office for some classes – it’s up to you to make that difference.  Plan it in your budget for this year!

I know one thing – I can’t wait for Ninja Gaiden II to come out!
